San Francisco (June 27, 2023) — Calm Health announced today it has entered into a know-how agreement with Mayo Clinic to create digital mental health programs designed to support cancer patients.
Cancer has a significant impact on not only the physical health, but mental health of all those involved. 1 in 3 people being treated for cancer have a mental health condition, and even more, rates of depressive disorder can be more than 3x higher compared to the general population.
“There is an urgent need to prioritize mental health care just as we do physical care,” said Rhett Woods, General Manager, Calm Health. “Calm Health seeks to create transformational and effective mental health and mindfulness tools to help patients through the challenging physical and emotional experience of chronic conditions or diseases such as cancer.”
Calm Health and Mayo Clinic oncologist Andrea Wahner Hendrickson, MD, will work in tandem with Yale School of Medicine clinical psychologist Jennifer Kilkus, PhD, ABPP who specializes in psycho-oncology, to build the new cancer clinical mental health program. The content will be designed for all adults with cancer and available to Calm Health customers.
Calm Health was announced in 2022 with the goal of bringing a trusted and engaging mental health solution to the healthcare system. Calm Health is designed to efficiently screen patients for anxiety and depression, direct them to the appropriate level of care, provide effective and engaging condition-specific mental health programs for conditions such as cancer, heart disease and diabetes and measure health outcomes.
